 I'm coming up to the end of the first third of Garth Ennis second stint in writing Hellblazer and blech. Unless he's balanced by someone else his writing is just so joylessly cold and cynical just for the sake of being so.

I say this having read all of Preacher and getting about halfway through The Boys before giving up because I can take misery but ‘haha everything is awful, everyone is a sick perverted freak the moment they get the chance to be and you’re an idiot of you think it isn’t’ is a completely different thing)

It's just so obvious he writes for edgy fourteen year old boys who think gore and tits  and cynicism are the mark of an adult comic book.
